Sam Poullain – PR ExecutiveWhere are you going this year?CambodiaWhy?I’ll be working in our Singapore office next year and there are so many places in Southeast Asia that are easy to visit. Cambodia fits the bill in terms of its rich history, with Angkor Wat one of the top places I want to see. Plus it has some amazing beaches if I want a change of scenery.Best place you went to last year?ThailandWhy?We went swimming with turtles. Undoubtedly the highlight of the trip. Plus the food was absolutely delicious. Max Janson – Market Manager, GermanyWhere are you going this year?JapanWhy?It has been on my bucket list for quite some time and I’m keen to finally see what it’s like. It’s a country that has always fascinated me in terms of it culture, lifestyle and philosophy and I have read a lot about it to try and get some perspective on what life in Japan is really like. My plan when I am over there is to visit Tokyo as well some Japanese temples. I still have a bit of planning to do beforehand though!Best place you went to last year?Vancouver, CanadaWhy?It’s a beautiful city with a great vibe! Whether it is raining or the sun is out, Vancouver never ceased to amaze me. With the very diverse mix of cultures and nationalities there is a great variety of restaurants and food, ranging from the best sushi I have ever eaten to discovering my new found love for Korean food and its indoor BBQs.On a nice day I recommend a walk around Stanley Park, which has great views of the mountains around Vancouver. Granville Island is also worth a visit, where you can see the more artistic side of Vancouver as well as checking out the boat yard and its indoor food market. Cat McGloin – PR AssistantWhere are you going this year?VietnamWhy?2013 will finally be the year I make it to Southeast Asia! Starting off in Vietnam, I’m keen to try my hand at street food, cooking and eating it! I’ve also read a lot about Halong Bay this year and how beautiful it is, but also how commercialised it’s becoming, so I’m heading out before it’s too late! We’ll be travelling down the coast to Ho Chi Minh City, an excellent opportunity to learn about the country’s fascinating history. Hopefully, we’ll get to sip a cocktail or two on the rooftop of one of the city’s impressive skyscrapers as well.Best place you went to last year?Miami, USAWhy?It’s vibrant and fast-paced, but full of vintage charm. The art deco buildings along Ocean Drive are so colourful, and the side-street cafes are the perfect places to people watch. I’d definitely recommend heading out of the city to the Everglades for a bit of alligator spotting! Itziar Irazabal – Relationship Executive, SpainWhere are you going this year?Val-d’lsère, FranceWhy?This winter I will be travelling to Val-d’lsère on the French-Italian-Swiss border for a skiing trip. I´ll be visiting some friends who have just moved there and hopefully I get to improve my skiing and practice a bit of French.Best place you went to last year?Santorini, GreeceWhy?Santorini was my favourite island of the Cyclades. I loved the white narrow streets of Thira, the main ‘city’ of the island, and the sunsets on the caldera edge were absolutely stunning. Gareth Williams – Skyscanner CEOWhere are you going this year? The Shetland Islands, UKWhy?After 10 years in Scotland, I am still yet to visit Shetland. I am going to trust in fate for sunshine as I hear the beaches can seem almost Caribbean in good weather. In any case, there are plenty of walking opportunities.Best place you went to last year?Grindelwald, SwitzerlandWhy?We went on a family skiing trip. The views of the Eiger were stunning and my son making it down from the top of the mountain his first time on skis (not the Eiger, a different one) was one of the proudest moments of my life. Skyscanner travel insiders reveal their travel plans for 2013 (and the best places they visited last year). From Shetland to Japan, If you’re looking for inspiration for your holidays this year, consider one of these great locaitons. James Teideman – Marketing ExecutiveWhere are you going this year?AustriaWhy?To attend the Haydn Festival – a celebration of the composer, and other classical greats such as Mozart and Beethoven, featuring concerts in historic venues in Eisenstadt, Austria, along with wildlife watching, wine tasting, walking and much merriment.Best place you went to last year?CorsicaWhy?To get away from it all in style by walking for two weeks through a stupendously sublime, wierd, wonderful land with the love of my life, and a crew of old dears from Geneva. I am hiring a campervan with four friends and driving from Auckland to Christchurch in New Zealand. I’d love to have longer but we are going to cram it into a couple of weeks and do the highlights. I’m particularly looking forward to camping up beside one of the many beautiful beaches, and hopefully spotting a whale or two.Best place you went to last year?ItalyWhy?Partly because it was my honeymoon! But also because of the location. Based on some excellent tips from our Italian social marketing manager, Yara, we went to the Dolomites and had an incredible time going off the beaten track. We stayed right in the heart of the mountains and did loads of mountain biking, hiking and eating of great food. You are taught how to build a raft from tree trunks (complete with cabin) and then spend four days floating down the river with your friends, wild camping at night. Sounds like a real-life, Swedish ‘Huck Finn’ adventure!Best place you went to last year?SloveniaWhy?The ‘Sunny Side of the Alps’ as it’s also called, is somewhere I just keep going back to. An underrated and under-visited country, Slovenia is a paradise for outdoor activities, and is the most beautiful country I have ever visited (take a look at the pictures on MyDestinationSlovenia to see what I mean!). This time I climbed Mount Triglav (2864m), the county’s highest mountain, canoed down the Kolpa river, and tried roast dormouse. Despite its small size, there’s still plenty more to discover, and I’ll be back soon.
