Le 2 mars 2011 à 10:14 • Emmanuel Perrinlast_img read more

first_img Watch: Bill Gates Reveals His Worst Fear in Netflix Docuseries TrailerPlex Enters The Streaming Service Wars With Cable-Style Bundle Bob’s BurgersOne animated sitcom that still smells fresh in its ninth season is Bob’s Burgers. This weekend sees the return of the Belcher family as they continue to deal with family squabbles, Tina’s boy obsessions and of course, Bob’s burger business. Honestly, I had a hard time choosing which clip from the upcoming season to include in this post. They’re just that good. It’s hard to find a comedy as sharp and funny as this on broadcast TV, and we are here for another season of hilariously obscure burger puns. Bob’s Burgers returns for its ninth season Sunday at 8:30 p.m. on Fox.Looking for more to watch this weekend? Get caught up on Star Trek: Discovery. How about head to the movies to check out Mandy or Assassination Nation. Either way, there’s plenty of great options for your viewing pleasure. Forget Peak TV. We’re living in an age of Peak Content, period. There are so many cool shows and movies and games and weird internet videos you could consume at any given moment that it’s almost overwhelming. And there are only so many free hours in a week, even if you skip sleep. So no one can blame you if you just want someone else to suggest to you what to watch on any given weekend. Why not let your friends here at Geek.com be that suggestive someone? Let Geek take the wheel! Here’s what we think is totally worth watching this weekend. And if you want to know how you can keep up with all this content, be sure to check out our stories on the best streaming TV services and streaming devices.Tracy Ullman’s ShowThe third season of Tracey Ullman’s sketch comedy show returns to HBO Friday night. When the first season premiered in 2016, it was the comedian’s first BBC show in over two decades. This season, commissioned by HBO, is comprised of repackaged segments from her ongoing topical BBC series, Tracey Ullman Breaks the News. From the looks of the trailer, the jokes skew international enough that you don’t have to be a complete Anglophile to get them. Just reasonably well-informed about the world beyond the United States. That might be asking a lot for some, but if you’re going to watch this show, chances are that’s not a problem. Ullman has a long history in the comedy world. She’s been doing killer impressions of celebrities and politicians for decades, and her 1987 variety show introduced the world to The Simpsons, which coincidentally also returns this weekend. Tracey Ullman’s Show premieres Friday at midnight on HBO. The SimpsonsThe Simpsons comes back for its 30th (!) season this weekend. The animated family sitcom will soon have been on the air for three decades. No matter what you think of the quality of these latter seasons, that’s a pretty big feat. It may never again be the brilliant, subversive show it was in its first decade, but as far as family comedies go, you can still do a lot worse. The show is still capable of producing at least a couple winners each season, and even the poorer episodes are still good for a few laughs. The scene above has a few good gags of its own. Besides, at this point, Sunday without the Simpsons would just feel wrong. The Simpsons returns Sunday at 8 p.m. on Fox. King LearWilliam Shakespeare’s best work (sorry, Hamlet) is brought into a fictional modern age in this Amazon/BBC partnership. The updated setting appears to be an England that is still ruled by a king capable of dividing the country up into thirds among his daughters. It uses Shakespeare’s dialog, though it makes some cuts to fit the two-hour runtime. Even with that, it looks like a fine adaptation of the tragedy with an absolutely stunning cast. In addition to Anthony Hopkins playing Lear, it stars Emma Thompson, Emily Watson, Florence Pugh and Jim Broadbent. Those actors know their way around a Shakespeare play. King Lear is available today on Amazon Prime. Forest of PianoMore anime comes to Netflix this weekend, this time in the form of Forest of Piano. The series centers on two boys who grow up near a forest containing an old, broken piano. One of them, completely self-taught, is the only person who can make it play. The other is the son of a famous pianist who isn’t happy about this upstart natural talent. The art looks gorgeous, and you already know the music will be the show’s centerpiece. There’s a very good chance this anime will make you cry. Forest of Piano is available today on Netflix. Stay on target Saturday Night LiveThe long-running sketch comedy staple returns for another season this weekend. Just like every other year, there will be a take from somewhere complaining that the show isn’t as funny as it used to be. And just like all those other years, there will invariably be one sketch dominating your workplace Slack chat come Monday morning. This show can still reliably pump out memorable moments of sketch comedy every season, and the current cast is seriously talented. But you already know that. This Saturday’s premiere features Adam Driver as host and Kanye West as the musical guest. Will he appear in the cold open alongside Alec Baldwin as President Trump? That can’t not happen, right? We’ll find out when Saturday Night Live returns, um, Saturday at 11:30 p.m. on NBC. Hold the DarkThe weather is turning colder, which may be putting you in the mood for something scary. So how about some scares in cold weather? Hold the Dark is an original thriller debuting on Netflix about a wolf expert called to investigate the death of a young boy. Though it was apparently done by a pack of wolves, the more he digs into it, the stranger the case becomes. The trailer is scary enough on it’s own, which is to be expected coming from Jeremy Saulnier, who directed the excellent horror flick Green Room. Plus, it features the acting of Westworld‘s Jeffrey Wright. Hold the Dark is available today on Netflix. Hell’s KitchenI’ll admit, I have a soft spot for this particular reality show. First of all, cooking competitions are fun. It’s exhilarating watching people try (and often fail) to put together a beautiful, perfectly cooked dish in a very short amount of time. Second, there’s just something about ornery British people swearing that’s hilarious to me. This season’s gimmick is, as the preview said, Rookies vs. Veterans. We’ve seen enough seasons of this show to know how this goes. Many of the veterans will be that perfect combination of cocky and rusty that guarantees a hilarious screw-up and chewing out. Cringe at the overcooked scallops and marvel athow anyone can cook a decent Beef Wellington when Hell’s Kitchen returns for its 18th season Friday at 9 p.m. on Fox. Murray is delighted with Andones performance

first_imgThe Brighton and Hove Albion defender scored the winning goal against Huddersfield Town last weekend on the English Premier LeagueThanks to a 69th-minute goal by Florin Andone, Brighton and Hove Albion was able to defeat Huddersfield Town in the English Premier League this past weekend. The goal came to break a 1-1 tied from the first half. And striker Glenn Murray is delighted with his teammate’s performance during the game.“Florin is a very bubbly character in the dressing room and has been very well received by the boys. It was big for him — he does everything properly and trains well every day,” Murray told the official Brighton website.Webster knows there’s a lot of competition before he debuts Manuel R. Medina – August 24, 2019 Brighton and Hove Albion defender, Adam Webster, hasn’t debuted in the English Premier League because he knows the competition is fierce.“He’s obviously picked up a few niggles along the way, so it hasn’t been a smooth transition and that’s given him a little bit of time to see the Premier League and understand what it’s about.”“But to see him get out there on Saturday and to score the winning goal against Huddersfield was great,” he added.“Obviously I was disappointed not to play, but I soon got over that with three points. It was much needed and very important for the team.”“It’s important to have healthy competition, we’re all friends off the field and we’re all pulling in the same direction- but I think all three of us [Jurgen Locadia] offer something different,” Murray concluded.last_img read more

The company has 25 employees currently, most of whom are engineers and scientists.“Our focus will be commercial development and applications that naturally come out of the foundational technologies we are developing,” Buttler said. Popular on Variety AI Foundation recently introduced the first phase of Reality Defender, software built to run alongside digital experiences (such as web browsing) to detect potentially fake media. Similar to antivirus software, it scans every image, video, and other media that a user encounters for known fakes, allows reporting of suspected fakes, and runs new media through various AI-driven analysis techniques to detect signs of alteration or artificial generation.Lars Buttler, who is AI Foundation’s CEO, previously co-founded and was CEO of Trion Worlds, a games company whose massively multiplayer online games include “Trove” and “Rift.” He said the dual nonprofit/commercial mission is central to the startup’s success.“Bringing personal AI to everyone opens up a new world of personal media, forever transforming entertainment and communications,” Buttler said.Explaining AI Foundation’s partnership with Endeavor, Buttler said the talent agency and media company represents “many great stars, people who move the world,” Buttler said. “They have a very high interest in AI and what it can do for the world as well as preventing some of the dangers.” He cited the issues that have cropped up with Deepfakes, an AI tool that allows the image of a celebrity to be be superimposed on pornography.Rob Meadows, the CTO of AI Foundation who previously founded AI-enabled software startup Originate, said the Reality Defender works today as a browser plug-in similar to ad blocker. The goal is to have the technology broadly adopted as a way to alert users when they encounter fake media on the web. With the funding, Founders Fund partner Cyan Banister and David Jones, founder of You & Mr Jones, have joined the AI Foundation’s board. In addition, Biz Stone has joined the startup’s Global AI Council advisory group, tasked with researching and evaluating how AI can “move humanity forward, as well as anticipate and counteract its risks.”“The potential to recognize the true promise of AI and to amplify the best traits of humanity are the driving values of The AI Foundation,” Stone said in a prepared statement. “The recognition and proactive approach to the possible negative impact of this technology is also reassuring.” Endeavor is among the investors in AI Foundation’s $10 million initial round of funding, fueling the artificial-intelligence startup’s development of AI tools including a system that scans for and detects fake media. It’s the first outside funding for San Francisco-based AI Foundation, founded in 2017. The round was led by Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund venture-capital firm and marketing-tech company You & Mr Jones, with participation by Endeavor and Twitter co-founder Biz Stone. Other investors in AI Foundation include movie producer Charles D. King, founder and CEO of production company Macro. The startup has an ambitious dual mission of creating both free artificial-intelligence tools to thwart the negative effects of AI as well as sell commercial products. The lofty goal of the AI Foundation: to “move humanity forward through the power of decentralized, trusted, personal AI, while anticipating and counteracting the risks of AI’s proliferation in society,” according to the company. ×Actors Reveal Their Favorite Disney PrincessesSeveral actors, like Daisy Ridley, Awkwafina, Jeff Goldblum and Gina Rodriguez, reveal their favorite Disney princesses. With Indonesia’s help, Australia and New Zealand were included in a free-trade deal with the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations, a regional bloc with a population of 640 million. Indonesian-Australian cooperation on counterterrorism has thrived since bombings on the resort island of Bali in 2002 killed 202 people, including 88 Australians. But socially and politically, the two countries can seem worlds apart.Indonesia is a sprawling and culturally diverse archipelago of 240 million people, the world’s fourth-most populous nation and third-biggest democracy. Australia is big in terms of area but has just 23 million people.Australia’s economy remains larger than Indonesia’s, but the economic balance is shifting.“Today things are very, very different,” said Tony Milner, an Australian National University expert on the bilateral relationship. “Without a doubt, Indonesia is more important to Australia than the other way around.” Top Stories ErrorOK… ErrorOKcenter_img Comments   Share   Ex-FBI agent details raid on Phoenix body donation facility Experts agree that the Bali Process _ Australia’s main forum for fostering Southeast Asian cooperation to prevent people-smuggling, trafficking and transnational crime _ it would not have anything like 45 member nations if not for Indonesia’s pivotal support. But there have been other rocky moments. In 2006, Yudhoyono recalled the Indonesian ambassador for a few weeks to protest Australia giving asylum to 42 West Papua refugees who feared persecution from the Indonesian military.Kingsbury, the Deakin University expert, said that with its response to the phone-tapping reports, Australia has “lost an important partner.”“Yudhoyono certainly has been our friend, but we don’t have too many other friends in Jakarta and indeed, he’s put himself out on our behalf and feels he’s been made a fool of,” Kingsbury said.Kingsbury sees Indonesian elections next year as an aggravating factor.“The fact that Indonesia is the aggrieved party in this and that this has directly touched on this well-developed sense of national pride and defensiveness is playing very badly,” he said. “By not apologizing or not making some significant gesture of redress, Abbott is playing directly into the hands of the nationalists who are lining up ahead of next year’s elections.” CANBERRA, Australia (AP) – The fragile, odd-couple relationship between Australia and Indonesia, forever locked together by geography, has reached the latest of several historic dips. This time, the difference might be that it’s the Australians who have more to lose.Jakarta has recalled its ambassador, announced it “downgraded” relations with Canberra and suspended cooperation on people-smuggling following outrage over reported Australian phone-tapping of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, his wife and eight Indonesian ministers and officials in 2009. 5 things to look for when selecting an ophthalmologist Former Arizona Rep. With Indonesian elections due next year, there is political mileage to be made for candidates prepared to stand up to Australia. And with a fast-growing economy, rising global influence and more than 10 times as many people as their neighbor to the south, Indonesia may feel little need to mend the relationship.“Indonesia is increasingly assertive. It’s getting economically stronger. It’s been internationally recognized more than it used to be, and in many ways it’s a lot more confident than it has been in the past,” said Damien Kingsbury, an expert on Indonesia politics at Australia’s Deakin University.Indonesia is not only an important trading partner, but under Yudhoyono’s leadership it has been a champion of Australia in regional forums that are crucial to achieving cooperation in problems such as terrorism, people-smuggling, money laundering and other forms of transnational crime. (AP Photo/Lynne Sladky) At long last: Beckham’s MLS team in Miami is borncenter_img MIAMI – David Beckham had a speech prepared and well-rehearsed for the event four years in the making, then abandoned his script shortly after taking the confetti-covered stage.Fitting, since nothing in his quest went as planned.“Bringing an MLS club to Miami,” Beckham said, “has been a hell of a journey.”The journey is now complete, in some respects: Beckham has his team, and Miami is back in Major League Soccer.Beckham and MLS announced Monday that the long-awaited franchise is now born. It took Beckham nearly four years just to get this far with Miami, and there are a slew of details still to come — such as the team name, logo, when it will start play and when the stadium will open. The biggest hurdle, it seems, has now been cleared.“Welcome, Miami,” MLS Commissioner Don Garber said.“Hola, Miami,” Beckham said, a nod to the multicultural makeup of the city. The team will play in a 25,000-seat, privately funded stadium, though it remains unclear when that will open — a very possible scenario is that the team begins play in 2020, and moves into its permanent home in time for the 2021 season. Part of the deal also is that Beckham’s group will build a training centre and an academy focused on developing local players.“Our pledge to our fans in Miami and around the world is simple: your team will always strive to make you proud on the pitch, our stadium will be a place that you cherish visiting, and our impact in the community and on South Florida’s youth will run deep,” Beckham said.Beckham is a global icon — in the soccer world, the entertainment world, even the fashion world . He started his career with Manchester United and also played for Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain. He was a fixture in international matches for England for years, and won four championships in four different leagues around the globe. He told a story of how as a 12-year-old, a coach told him that he wouldn’t play professionally or for England. He persevered anyway, became perhaps the biggest name in the game when his playing career was at its peak — and the same doggedness was necessary to get a deal done in Miami, after the quest for a franchise nearly failed several times along the way.“We’re here because of David,” said Marcelo Claure, one of Beckham’s partners.Monday’s event — a pep rally, with a few hundred fans in attendance and a red carpet interview area snaking through the media room — was intentionally benign in many respects. The MLS logo for all the signage had a black background, with the word “Miami” printed below it in white. Specific details were few and far between.“We’ll be the best team,” Beckham said. “When I was awarded the team, there was only one city for me. Only one city, and it was here.”The idea of the franchise coming to Miami began looking very real last spring, when Miami-Dade County commissioners approved a deal to sell Beckham nearly three acres of county land for $9 million — the last parcel needed for the nine-acre site in the city’s Overtown neighbourhood, where the stadium is likely to be built. MLS officials said even then they hoped to announce the team’s official inclusion into the league last summer. It took a few more months, and there’s still plenty of questions. But for one day, there was also plenty of celebrating.“My fellow Miamians, finally, we are here,” Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez said. “This announcement has been a long time coming.”The return of the Miami market to MLS is the latest chapter in the league’s steady expansion .In 2006, there were 12 MLS clubs and the expansion fee to enter the league was $10 million. Miami becomes the 25th franchise after the addition last month of expansion Nashville — which paid a $150 million entry fee. MLS’ average attendance at matches has also risen nearly 43 per cent over that 12-year span.Beckham’s group didn’t pay anywhere near what Nashville did. As part of former English star’s playing contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy, Beckham had the right to establish an MLS franchise for $25 million. He formally announced Miami as his pick in February 2014.“Our town. Our city,” said Miami businessman Jorge Mas, another of Beckham’s partners. “Dreams are realized where freedom reigns.”last_img read more
