first_imgThe football squad of the Legislature (LEG) has complained to the Ministry of Youth and Sports – the organizer of the 2015 Special Intra-Governmental Tournament, on the alleged use of ‘ineligible’ players by the Judiciary.LEG sports chairman Seth Wallace Joe told the Daily Observer yesterday that the protest was filed minutes after their 2-0 defeat at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.According to the protest, LEG accused players Hamilton Sarkor (# 8 jersey) and James Nimene (# 10 jersey) as active players and may not have acquired ‘inactive status’ that is less than three years, and therefore their participation violates the tournament’s regulation. The regulation says that players of participating public institutions with the exception of Assistant Minister or position equivalent to Assistant Minister and above – must be more than 30 years old. It also says players must be ‘inactive’ for more than three seasons.Former FIFA referee and Chief Protocol of the Liberia Football Association Alex Nagbo and retired Lone Star team manager Wortor Anderson are overseeing the protest- ruling is expected today.LEG, captained by former FIFA 1995 World Best Player, Sen. George M. Weah struggled in vain to break through the well-organized and young-adult Judiciary. The likes of Fofee Kamara, Sebastian Collins, Isaac Tondo and Rep. Henry Fahnbulleh could not be overcome despite the opponents’ efforts that were greeted with cheers by the crowd.Amidst the amusing play from LEG, Judiciary hit man – Tom Wilson rattled the net in the 11 minute.Sen. Weah – skillful and sensible – still could not take on the 11 men owing to his age and lack of endurance – with gangling defenders Ansumana Kamara and Amos Dickson mending the fence while Ernest Togba between the sticks. In the second half, Wellington Cooper increased the tally in the 61st minute.Howbeit if the protest succeeds, Judiciary could be out of the tourney, and on the contrary, LEG’s jerseys could remain in the ‘washing machine.’In the opener, GAC pinned NASSCORP 7-6 in a lottery kick, after a pulsating 1-1 tie.GAC’s frontier striker Freeman Koon scored in the 13th minute, but NASSCORP leveled in the 85th minute through a diagonal kick by Sie Anderson.Guiding Defense (Ministry of Defense) whipped LIBTELCO 2-1. Defense didn’t see the ball that much, but had an “army defense.”Capt. Soko Sirleaf and PVC Bradin Judueh scored in the 7th and 59th minutes, while LIBTELCO got the consolation goal in the 36th minute through Nathaniel Sayon. In today’s games, MYS will host LEG and FDA meets the Judiciary both in kickball. The winner of the first kickball game faces Finance Ministry. LBS and MYS football teams climax the day.Meanwhile, three kickball teams have dropped from the tournament, including NASSCORP, Ministry of State and Ministry of Youth and Sports.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
