Texila University employee dies in hit-and-run accident
The latest fatality, a hit-and-run accident on the East Bank of Demerara, claimed the life of a facility maintenance worker who was employed by Texila American University.The roadway where Arnold Kissoonlall was struck and killedAccording to reports, Arnold Kissoonlall was traversing along the bridge between Peters Hall and Providence, in the vicinity of the Ramada Georgetown Princess Hotel, on a bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle heading north. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene upon impact.When Guyana Times arrived at the scene, the man’s body was removed along with a blue bicycle belonging to Kissoonlall. Persons at the scene could not give a description of the vehicle involved in the accident. It was indicated that the man’s head was crushed.At the scene, over a dozen employees were present but remained tight-lipped about details surrounding the dead man or the accident. This publication understands that the man resided at Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara.His body was taken to the Lyken Funeral Home where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted. Meanwhile, the police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and are also on the lookout for the vehicle which caused the tragic incident. This newspaper was also told that Police are examining surveillance footage from nearby businesses.This is the second hit-and-run accident over the past three days. On Saturday, 27-year-old Joel Wills was riding his motorcycle when he was hit by a lorry on the Number One Public Road, East Berbice Corentyne.Wills was on his way home from the Albion Community Centre where he was a part of a group that cleaned the arena for a Jehovah’s Witnesses convention.According to information received, following the collision the driver of the motor lorry fled the scene without rendering any assistance.
