first_imgLiberia Music Awards (LMA), Country representative, Joseph Junior Teah, has reacted sharply to the recent criticism by some musicians that the awards were offered based on partiality.According to him, if they start releasing the online and text message voting results from Liberia, it will shock fans to note that those who are making the noise are the ones who never voted and did little or no awareness.“It is time that Liberian musicians stop the blame game and awake to the realities of life. These artists should be happy and grateful that we have started something good that is recognizing their talents and giving them more exposure,” he said.“Artists cry for support but whenever there is an event that truly represents them, some don’t show up; others don’t support only because they were not nominated and were not performing.“Our artists need firstly to understand that music awards are for honoring achievements and supporting the industry growth, not to give cash prize,” he stressed. He further said some artists believe that they are better than other artists and so they demand that the awards contain cash in order to be of value to them. But if they don’t care about awards, let them stop crying for support. He described the LMA as an organization that honors artistic achievement, Disc Jockey (DJ) and general excellence in the industry, without regard to album sales or chart positions. “It saddens me to know that with all the efforts we have made in giving artists publicity and presenting the industry’s image to the world, still some artists remain ungrateful,” Mr. Teah lamented.Meanwhile, he calls on Liberians to support the bigger cause, which is, putting Liberian music on the map. With togetherness, greater success can be attained in the near future. “LMA’s focus right now is to see how best plans can be finalized to have next year’s edition [in Liberia] and this can only be done as soon as artists fully understand the importance of the awards,” he stressed.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
