first_imgAndrew Ayew’s worldie: #SWABRE pic.twitter.com/yHPr3PQkLl— Dan〽️ (@dmlnkv) July 26, 2020 The Premier League’s Top 4 and relegation battles might have dominated the headlines on Sunday but one Ghanaian in the Championship might have scored the goal of the weekend.Ghana captain, Andre Ayew scored a fantastic goal on Sunday to give Swansea a slight advantage in their Playoffs semi against Brentford. The Black Stars captain had earlier missed a penalty for the Swans as the Welsh side looked to take an important lead into the second leg. With the game seemingly heading to a stalemate Ayew pounced on some great build-up play from Gallagher and Fulton to fire home a magnificent winner. His effort was beautifully hit on the half-volley and flew into the back of the net.It sparked wild celebrations from the home players and fans who had scraped into the playoffs on goal difference. The Swans will now take their slim lead into the second leg at Brentford with both teams aiming to reach the final which will be played at Wembley. The winner of that final will take the final Premier League spot for next season.Take a look at the magnificent strike below:last_img read more

first_imgDeja Bron.Yes, we’ve been here before … annually for four years … with LeBron James in the NBA Finals against the Warriors, who won two of the previous meetings and led the third 3-1 before LeBron led the Cavaliers in their historic rally to win the 2016 title. We’re off to a thrilling, almost shocking start with the Warriors in predictable post-Rockets lethargy and the Cavs blowing Game 1 before losing in overtime. I’d still put the over-under on Cleveland wins at one, in which case the Cavs can try to rally from 3-1 down again.A lot changed in a week and it’s not good news in Lakerdom. AD Quality Auto 360p 720p 1080p Top articles1/5READ MOREUCLA alum Kenny Clark signs four-year contract extension with PackersThe Warriors looked set to fall with the Rockets about to go up 3-2 when Chris Paul, who had scored nine of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, missed a turnaround in the lane and fell awkwardly with 51 seconds left in Game 5.Signaling he was really hurt, he didn’t get up and run back to play defense. (The Warriors didn’t score with Quinn Cook missing an open 3-point attempt.)That ended Paul’s season and, ultimately, Houston’s. The Rockets who opened double-digit leads in Games 6 and 7 but burned out and were run over in both with Coach Mike D’Antoni’s already short playoff rotations down a man they couldn’t afford to lose.More fans than Houston’s winced at the sight of CP3 limping, including those in Lakerdom. The Lakers’ anticipated pursuit of James and Paul George always depended on a number of things happening, which seemed to be thisclose to coming true. Their young team had shown promise. LeBron and George appeared to have no better options. VIDEO: Watch Kyle Kuzma’s game winner and what he said about it George’s Thunder had lost in the first round with Carmelo Anthony disappearing, showing the PG-Melo-Russell Westbrook combination didn’t work.LeBron’s Cavaliers had to rally from 3-2 to beat the young Celtics without Kyrie Irving. Showing how little that impressed anyone, the Cavs then became historic Finals underdogs with VegasInsider.com listing them at 10-1 meaning Warriors bettors had to put up $10 to win $1.Had the Rockets won a title, they still would have pursued James but not with their current desperation after falling short yet again … which is necessary since they’d have to dump most of their players. For his part, LeBron would have been leery about the way joining a title winner would have looked. Kevin Durant is still being sneered at for joining the Warriors and they were coming off their 2016 Finals loss to the Cavaliers. What had only been speculated upon is now happening … or being speculated on so much, it might as well be happening … after the New York Times’ Marc Stein assured a questioner on Twitter that “Paul has already begun his recruitment of James.”Speculative as it was, it’s safe to assume. James and CP3 aren’t just close, they’re best buddies with Paul the godfather to LeBron’s oldest child, LeBron Jr.Moreover, that means something to James. LeBron, CP3 and Melo have talked throughout their careers about their desire to play with each other outside the Olympics if they ever got the chance.Nor will it bother James to be in a second-tier market like Houston, rather than a glamor capital like Los Angeles. If the best players usually want the brightest lights and the biggest stage, LeBron is 180 degrees different. It has always been a personal conceit that wherever he is is a marquee market. He wasn’t even 21 as a young NBA player when he began convening an annual marketing conference – in his hometown of Akron, not even nearby Cleveland – obliging his sponsors to show up there. It’s true that LeBron owns two pricey homes in Brentwood, suggesting that he is, indeed, thinking about the Lakers … but that might mean little in the end.“These days it doesn’t matter because you can be known and be a star from anywhere – anywhere in the world,” Maverick Carter, LeBron’s point man, recently told syndicated talk show host Rich Eisen.“I mean, could he sell a few more sneakers if he was in a gigantic market like Boston, Chicago, New York, or L.A.? Maybe. But not as much as if he wins. What matters the most is if he wins. When you win as an athlete, that matters the most.”Sign up for Home Turf and get 3 exclusive stories every SoCal sports fan must read, sent daily. Subscribe here.In the end, it will depend on what feels right to James. The Rockets would have to move everybody except Paul, James Harden, Clint Capela, Trevor Ariza and Ryan Anderson to clear enough cap space.(They could keep Eric Gordon and P.J. Tucker if they can find a taker for Anderson, the stretch four who fell into disuse, but with two years and $41 million left on his contract, it remains to be seen if GM Daryl Morey can pull that off.)Who knows?Maybe LeBron would prefer to be The Man, as he always has been, with George and the young Lakers, rather than a big piece in an ensemble cast on a team in a town that has always belonged to Harden.Dwyane Wade manfully moved over for James in Miami, becoming another of his close friends, but LeBron knows how hard situations like that can be. Philadelphia also will reportedly be in the picture, suggesting the 76ers aren’t high on their potential with Markelle Fultz, who’s no longer as universally admired as he was before his lost, injury-filled rookie season.Related Articles Jubilation, anguish as race for NBA’s Western 8th seed gets as close as ever First, the 76ers have to straighten out this story about GM Bryan Colangelo and burner Twitter accounts linked to him, or his wife, that tweeted bad things about 76ers players. Whether or not Colangelo did anything wrong, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe speculate that Colenagelo might be fired to eliminate any question … because they intend to pursue LeBron.Of course, you can hear CP3 from here:Don’t worry about it, Bron. We’ll bring in a bunch of minimum salary guys like Mike Miller, who followed you all over the league, to make open shots and rebound. We’ll plow those [email protected]#$% Warriors under and I’ll shimmy in front of Steph Curry until he gets dizzy and falls over.Let’s see, am I forgetting any LeBron suitors?Oh, right, the Cavaliers.
