first_imgNAGPUR, India (CMC) – In-form Bermudian all-rounder Delray Rawlins struck an unbeaten 70 as England Under-19s rattled up 501 for five declared on the second day of their opening four-day Youth Test at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium here yesterday.In reply, India closed on 156 for two with Rawlins conceding 14 runs from four overs of left-arm spin.Rawlins, due in at number four, spent most of Monday’s opening day with his pads on as the visitors recovered from losing opener Harry Brook for 21 with the total on 57, to close on 311 for one thanks to centuries from captain Max Holden and number three George Bartlett.Bartlett was the first to go yesterday as he was dismissed for 179 after a second-wicket stand of 321 with Holden, who was fourth out for 170 at 418.But there was no respite for the Indian bowlers as Rawlins – one of six Youth Test newcomers in the England team – weighed in with his unbeaten 70 from 94 balls, including four sixes and five fours before the declaration came after 131.1 overs.Rawlins went into the two-match Test series on the back of some sparkling one-day international form, making 107 not out on debut and also scoring 96 during the five-match series which India won 3-1 after the final game was tied.Rawlins, who is on the books of English county side Sussex, is hoping his form in India will help him break into the first team this summer.His performances in India have not gone unnoticed by his county, who are represented on the tour by assistant coach Jon Lewis, the former England medium pacer, who is the bowling coach for the youngster.“Yeah, I’m lucky enough to have the assistant coach out here as the bowling coach for us, so he’s seeing my performances first hand,” Rawlins said earlier this week.“So I don’t think I’ve done myself any harm in pushing to try and get in the first team this summer.”last_img read more
